Mikah 9

When it comes to Freestyle Fellowship (Aceyalone, Mikah 9, P.E.A.C.E., Self Jupiter and producer J Sumbi) , ‘Innercity Griots’ is the obvious choice for a dope album BUT I think people forget the siccness of their other albums.  ‘To Whom It May Concern’ is a solid offering from beginning to end with many notable lines throughout.  Freestyle Fellowship was for Cali what groups like Gang Starr, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest  were for New York.  They created this amazingly high standard that upcoming artists could only hope to touch one day themselves.  I guarantee you that they are one of your favorite rappers, favorite rappers.

Production: All In All, J. Sumbi, Mathmattiks, Micah 9

Freestyle Fellowship – ‘ 7th Seal’

Aceyalone and Abstract Rude have two of my favorite hip hop voices ever so having them together mixed with Mikah 9 is just a wonderful thing to me.  Plus anyone who has a group name that infers a ’poetry takeover’ is golden from the jump.  This album is just straight westcoast underground rawness through and through.  I like when albums have that ‘concert’ vibe.  It’s like you listen to them and you can just picture being at some shady ass underground venue, surrounded by hip hop heads, getting your mind blown and wondering why you are one of the few lucky souls to be in on this magical moment in time.  Yeah its like that.

Production: DJ Drez, Fat Jack, Mikah 9, Spacek’s “The Istickz”, PMG, Chief Xcel, Kenny Segal

Features: Blackalicious, Busdriver, Lateef, Lyrics Born

Label: Project Blowed Productions
