Someone hit me up on last.fm with this mix and I’m glad they did because I’m feelin it. This is a soundscape of boom bap over the past decade including hundreds of snippets from multiple artists. Its interesting to hear the progression over time because although boom bap can be used to describe a specific type of beat (heavy bass + snare) it sounds different depending on what year you are in. And all of it sounds different from the original boom bap beats back in the 90′s. But with that said I’m down with KRS-One in bringing boom bap back to the hip hop scene. I would say that about 80% of my favorite hip hop is influenced by this type of beat. This mix is dope too because it includes tons of different artists, some of which you may have never been introduced to and they include a full tracklist on their site so you can scope out everyone you are listening to. I think its something heads out there can definitely appreciate. You can listen to the whole mix (1hr20min) on their blog and you can d/l it for free as well.
