Hiero Hiero Hiero is all you could ever want and ask for in a hip hop super group.  They have prime emcees, ridiculous beatmakers and energy for days.  To this day Hiero put on the absolute BEST show I have ever seen.  Straight hip hop insanity in the best way possible.  Plus Shock G of Digital Underground happened to be in town super randomly that night and came to the show and Hiero talked him into coming on stage to do ’93′ Til Infinity’ with them.  They did the whole song and then proceeded to do like 10 more minutes of freestyling.  I was like “ummmmmm have I died and gone to hip hop heaven? Why yes I think I have.”  But anyways back to ‘Full Circle’, this album has that chill underground westcoast vibe and has such great humor throughout.  They also round out a few tracks with the beautiful voice of Goapele.  If I could pick any emcees to kick it with it would probably be Hiero.

Hieroglyphics – ‘Fantasy Island’

Souls of Mischief are one of the few groups that maintain their old school sound no matter how far past the golden era we get.  I was so pleasantly surprised when I heard this album and found that these dudes stayed true to their roots.  This album was produced largely by Prince Paul so you already know the beats are on point and A-Plus, Tajai, Opio & Phesto bring their good-humored lyrics to the project as per usual.  I’m not gonna sit here and say I liked this album better than ’93 Til Infinity’ but I will say it was one of the more enjoyable albums of 2009.
