Del The Funky Homosapien

This album is the absolute most pure essence of hip hop.  Its crazy to me that Zion I aren’t super famous by now but in a way I’m secretly glad that the  mainstream hasn’t caught wind of them yet and ruined their amazing vibe.  One of the best things about this album is that you can straight up listen to every track without wanting to skip anything.  From beginning to end it is packed with sublime cuts.  There aren’t any Zion I albums that I don’t like but I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that this album personifies their overall feel better than any other.  It’s inspiring, uplifting and only gets better with time.

Zion I – ‘ Bird’s Eye View’

Production wise this album owns thanks to Dan the Automator.  Then add Del The Funky Homosapien’s funky ass rhyming abilities and have DJ Kid Koala put it all together and BAM there you have it.  One of the most interesting and tightly produced hip hop albums of all time.  People get all high and mighty and try to clown this album for being ‘nerd rap’.  Well if its nerd rap then give me some big black rimmed glasses, a pocket protector and a calculator and sign me the fuck up because I’m down with it.  Deltron 3030 takes you on a journey into the future into the year, you guessed it, 3030.  They explore the possibilities of the whats gonna be goin on in about 1000 years from now, droppin some futuristic rap on ya.  Dan the Automator has to be one of the most creative hip hop producers to ever do it.  And I still can’t believe Del is Ice Cube’s cousin.  No disrespect to Cube because I love him too but Del is straight genius-level.  If you consider yourself a hip hop fan at all then this has to be in your playlist.  I can’t wait for the day when they drop another gem on us.

Deltron 3030 – ‘Mastermind’

“Whatchu know bout that new CMA??”  Okay its not so new anymore but that doesn’t make it any less relevant.  This album is the ultimate mirror of reality.  It touches base on the mistakes we can make in life, the rough experiences we might be subjected to & the questionable decisions we make on the daily.  But then they lift you back up with the overall hope that things can & will be better, that we in fact are very powerful over creating our own destiny & through the thick of it all we do have positive aspects of our being.  Sounds like pretty deep stuff but you kinda get lost in it all because the beats are so dope.  Yet another example of the ability to make absolutely ill songs while still schooling you on the nature of life.  This is one from the LL collection that cannot be looked over.

Cma – ‘Windows’

Oh my god the lyrics on this album freakin OWN!  This is easily one of my favorite albums of the year.  Gift of Gab gets pretty eclectic here with beat selection, throwing some electronica inspired beats into the mix among other influences.  I love his spiritual approach.  He pretty much conveys exactly what I’m thinking only he does it way better than I ever could.  His kind nature and wild imagination are seen throughout these tracks.  I would listen to one track and be like awww damn that was good…then the next track would come on and I would be like damn thats even better.  There are a few tracks that I could have done without but overall I like the creative nature of this album.  Speaking as someone who is not always into Blackalicious, I am totally into this album.
