Jean Grae is probably the most relevant femcee out currently, still making moves, and still blessing our ears with her innovations.  Lyrically Jean Grae is top notch, bringing a poetic style to her songs and allowing us access to some of the deeper abyss’ of her mind.  My one problem with Jean is that she sometimes gets monotonous but as with any good lyrical album, it’s best if you can listen to this while you have some time to really pay attention and digest the lyrics.

Jean Grae – ‘God’s Gift’

Oh my god Bahamadia has flow for days.  Her flow is sooooo smooth…this album  just glides from beginning to end.  She reps Philly and has in’s with Gangstarr (RIP Guru) and Army of the Pharoahes.  Production on this album comes from DJ Premier, Guru, Da Beatminerz and a few others.  Not every track on here is absolute classic material but as a whole this is such a solid offering.  And the standout songs are well worth the effort.

Production: Da Beatminerz, DJ Premier, Guru, N.O. Joe, The Roots.

Features: The Roots

Bahamadia – ’3 The Hard Way’

Its so crazy to me that more people don’t appreciate Akrobatik’s work and his absolute raw talent.  He has such a presence on the mic and comes so hard track after track.  The biggest thing I like about Akro is that you can tell he is so inquisitive and intelligent.  He is always questioning the ideals of our society and he is not afraid to go against the norm.  All of this substance matched up with his East-Coast vibe are enough to make any head happy.  Honestly you can’t go wrong with any picks from Akro’s discog but this one stands out for me.  Truly is an album you can listen to from beginning to end without skipping any tracks.  Plus this has one of my top 10 favorite hip hop songs of all time, ‘Remind My Soul’.  If you aren’t acquainted with Akrobatik yet then you best get to it!

Production:  Akrobatik, D-Tension, Da Beatminerz, Diamond D, DJ Fakts One, DJ Revolution, DJ Sense, DJ Therapy, Edan, Illmind, Slopfunkdust

Features:  Diamond D, Mr. Lif

Label:  Coup D’Etat Entertainment
