Cunninlynguists

Ohhhhh Cuninnlynguists, how I love your name and your music even more.  Kno is pretty much a production genius, the beats on this album are fucking deep dude.  And not to be outshined Deacon & Natti provide equally compelling verses that leave you thinking about them long after the track is over.  This is on some real life, meaning of life type shit.  The actual concept for this album and the interplay of all the tracks into the overall theme is ridiculous.  I didn’t even realize what they were getting at until I read someone’s breakdown of the overall meaning of the album and each song and it just brought this album to a whole other level.  It would take too long to explain everything on here but if you want to know more just search for it online because there are a lot of dope explanations.  This is the fourth LP that they dropped and in a way it feels like this album is a perfect culmination of everything they have learned and experienced up to this point in their careers and lives.  I’m pretty sure it would be impossible for any hip hop fan to listen to this album and not love at least half the tracks.

Cunninlynguists – ‘ Nothing To Give ft. Cee-Lo’

If the Cunninlynguists aren’t enough to break your stereotypes of Southerners then you are a lost cause.  They come with intelligent lyrics, abstract thinking & they show respect towards women, a quality that is difficult to come across in hip hop.  They give their fans credit for being smart enough to know that rappers live in the same world we do and therefore are exposed to the same experiences we are.  Basically they tell it like it is minus all the bullshit hype.  Cunninlynguists have tons of good albums but I picked this one because it has been somewhat ignored even by their own fans.  When I first got this album it didn’t leave my cd player for a good 4 months.  Its realistic with interludes of feel-good songs like ‘Wonderful feat. Devin the Dude’ and ‘Mexico’ and its introspective and dark with songs like ‘Dance With Me’ & ‘Things I Dream’.  Plus no joke one of my favorite tracks off this album is an interlude (‘They Call Me’), that is true talent right there.  All kinds of goodness to be found throughout this release.
