Brother J

Heyyyyyyy everyone, sorry for the extended hiatus.  I got busy getting a job and working for the man plus I had no computer for a good long while.  But I am now back with a new laptop, some free time and my everlasting love of good hip hop.  So on with the show…..we move on to one hell of a classic album called ‘Seeds of Evolution’ by Dark Sun Riders featuring Brother J.  Many of you will recognize Brother J as being part of the infamous X-Clan crew.  After the X-Clan had run it’s course Brother J, with his unique voice and wise lyrics, found himself collabing with the Dark Sun Riders.  Man the beats on this album are so heavy and funky, I can only imagine how incredible it would be to see this album played live.  Lyrically Brother J brings his everpresent wisdom of the rap game, his futuristic creativity and his insightful spirituality.  I was impressed and enthralled when I first heard this album.  Maybe because it mirrors a lot of my own beliefs or maybe because nothing sounds like this anymore and it lets me reminisce.

Dark Sun Riders ft. Brother J – ‘Zoneweilders Groove’

When it comes down to it hip hop just isn’t made like this anymore.  Crazy conscious lyrics plus slammin beats…it takes true talent to make you want to dance to a song that is ultimately about the complete corruption of our government.  PRT jumped off where Public Enemy left and they come hard with it.  The features on this album give a good indication of the level you are working with (KRS-One, The Fugees & Brother J.)  You have to have a pretty open mind when you listen to this because they definitely make their strong opinions known and they make no apologies about it.  This album is perfect to bump in your car because it has bass for days.  PRT will drop knowledge on you like nobodies business.  To be super real as a White female I sometimes feel like a hypocrite when it comes to listening to groups like PRT, Dead Prez & Public Enemy.  But I do think its really important to understand all different perspectives.  Plus when it comes down to it I think a lot of my views are similar to theirs.  I might not go about saying it in the same way but the overall mentality can be shared among any group of people aside from race, age, gender etc.  All that aside, this is probably one of my favorite albums of all time.  If you like PRT you should also check out Wise Intelligent’s solo projects because they come with the same raw intelligence as you see here.
